KL International Money Wasting Festival

I am proud to be a Malaysian because we live in a generally peaceful democratic country. I am thankful, really. However, sometimes I have to admit I felt a little embarassed of the Malaysian habit of making us look like total fools to everyone else around the world, especially in the entertainment scene. It seems that everybody is waiting for Malaysia to humor them and from past experience, we were very good at it. The latest money wasting effort and possibly global humiliation is the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival. No, don’t go to the official website. Seriously.

Being the ignorant twat that I am (thank God for the internet specifically the unreliable Streamyx otherwise I’m still flipping those pathetic outdated showtimes on Astro guide), I never bother to even think about the Malaysian film scene. Not that it is worthless to me, I’m just not into local entertainment scene in general. Everyone seems to aim for higher ground from what I last heard.

I’m not a movie critic but what ticks me off is that how funny, weird and almost bizarre the people in showbiz here do things. Back to the KL International Film Festival, sure we get mostly art house nominations but I didn’t see this one coming. It’s a bit shocking but something like this is kinda expected I guess.

And the Best Special Effect Jury Merit Award goes to… brace yourselves ladies and gentlemen… Transformers! Friggin’ Michael Bay’s Transformers. Are we THAT easily amused? I mean, I like Transformers and all but purely for the shock and awe factor and no one can deny the movie is kinda awesome, COMMERCIALLY. Apparently, the juries of Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival 2007 consists of 20 something fanboys. Niceness. What’s their excuse? Transformers has amazing visual effects. That’s all. OMG like totally, dude! Sign me off as one of the juries too!

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, so I just put on my ignorant twat cap back on and continue living my life peacefully. And if you really care, here is the actual website. And I’m out.

    I’m a sucker for the old ‘Don’t click here!’ trick so checked out the site and I have to say, it totally sucks ass. There is no nice way to describe it. It just sucks ass.
